An anonymous U.S. private collector paid a world record $220,000 for a copy of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s “Moulin Rouge” at an auction in New York. A spokesman for Poster Auctions International said the copy was one of only eight known to exist in private hands and topped the previous record of $95,000 paid for a copy of the same poster two years ago. In 1896, the poster sold for the equivalent of about $50 today.
