The Writers Guild of America, East, which represents 3,200 writers for television, movie and news programs who work east of the Mississippi River, has voted overwhelmingly to join the AFL-CIO, reports guild Executive Director Mona Mangan. The decision does not involve the Writers Guild, West, which represents writers in the rest of the United States. As a result of the vote, the Writers Guild of America, East will become part of the Department for Professional Employees of the national labor federation.
