A special Mother’s Day worship service featuring a taped performance by renowned pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy will take place at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday at Garden Grove’s Crystal Cathedral.

Ashkenazy’s recital was taped in the 3,000-seat cathedral on May 3 before his performance at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. He gave a private recital of Brahms’ Rhapsody in E flat, Opus 119, according to Colleen Johnson, assistant program director at Crystal Cathedral.

“Dr. Schuller happens to know him (Ashkenazy) personally and asked him to come perform and he did,” Johnson explained.
