A fire early today destroyed one of about 30 ramshackle wooden buildings at an abandoned alcohol rehabilitation center in Santa Clarita.

No one was injured in the fire at the Saugus Rehabilitation Center on Bouquet Canyon Road, Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Larry Wild said.

The cause of the blaze, which was put out shortly before 1 a.m., was being investigated, Wild said.

Several hours earlier, another fire apparently was intentionally set in rubbish at the old center, Los Angeles County Firefighter Bob Goldman said.

The rehabilitation center, owned by the city of Los Angeles, has been abandoned for more than a decade. Mayor Tom Bradley proposed selling it to the state in 1986 for use as a prison. Gov. George Deukmejian, who was running against Bradley at the time, opposed the idea.
