The World : Marcos’ Condition Critical
Former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos, suffering from recurrent pneumonia, lapsed into critical condition, a Honolulu hospital official said. “It’s an episodic thing, he has pneumonia and his condition has been downgraded,” said Eugene Tiwanak, assistant administrator of St. Francis Hospital. “It’s impossible to say more than that.” Marcos was returned to the intensive care unit Monday after a month in the cardiac care unit, according to a hospital statement. It also said that Marcos was relying on a respirator to help him breathe. The 71-year-old Marcos has been hospitalized since January for treatment of heart and respiratory ailments.
