Joe Montana had some “debris” removed from his left knee last week in what the San Francisco 49ers described as minor surgery.
It was the quarterback’s fifth operation, dating to 1983 and the second on the same knee. But the 49ers said that Montana, who turns 33 on June 11, should fully recover from the arthroscopic surgery.
Montana will miss the team’s mini-camp next week at Santa Clara. Walker said Montana hadn’t been expected to play much anyway, since the 49ers are focusing on whether to keep John Paye or Kevin Sweeney as their No. 3 quarterback.
