First baseman Keith Hernandez, co-captain of the New York Mets, was found today to have a broken right kneecap and will be sidelined about eight weeks.

Hernandez was injured Wednesday night when he collided with shortstop Dave Anderson of the Dodgers in breaking up a double play during the fifth inning of the Dodgers’ 4-3, 10-inning victory. (Story, Part III, Page 1.).

Hernandez played another two innings, but when it was his turn to bat in the seventh and he hobbled toward home plate, Manager Davey Johnson removed him for pinch-hitter Dave Magadan.
