Alternative Repertory Alters Play’s Schedule in Bid to Boost Revenue

The Alternative Repertory Theatre in Santa Ana has canceled Thursday and Sunday performances of its current offering, “Slow Dance on the Killing Ground” by William Hanley, but has extended its run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through June 17. The show had been scheduled to close June 3.

The shift is designed to help raise the $7,000 that ART has said it needs by mid-June to survive. “We hope this will capitalize on the nights we have larger audiences,” artistic director Patricia Terry said Monday. She said Thursday and Sunday audiences were too small to justify continued performances.

“If our houses are big on Fridays and Saturday,” Terry added, “it’s conceivable we can make $5,000 by the time the show closes. And if we can make $2,000 on our (June 10 fund-raiser), we can meet our goal.”

The fund-raiser, a garage-type sale of donated items, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1636 S. Grand Ave., near Edinger Avenue. For information, call (714) 836-7929.
