Decathlon Teams

Share

I just finished reading the two letters (May 13) complaining about Taft High School winning the Academic Decathlon, and I am furious. Right now, at this very moment, my son is competing with the Esperanza High School Freshman Academic Decathlon team in the Orange County Academic Decathlon. As the parent of a decathlon team member, I can tell you the most important thing these two letter writers missed is the dedication of the students in giving their time, their energy, and their effort to this competition. Whether coached by “experts” or “dedicated faculty members,” the bottom line is that the students devote hours and hours of their time to prepare for this competition.

I was proud and excited for Taft High School. But you see, in our house we have experienced the hard work it takes to compete! I say hooray for Taft High! I say hooray for all schools that have students and staff willing to dedicate themselves to months and months of preparation for any competition!
