SEOUL —
Malaysia beat Nepal 2-0 and South Korea defeated Singapore 3-0 today in the opening matches of the East Asia Group 4 qualifying rounds for the 1990 World Cup soccer championship.
The winner of Group 4 preliminaries will advance to the second round against six Asian Group winners. The top two teams will win the berths to the 1990 World Cup in Rome.
South Korea, which advanced to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, is favored to win the Group 4 competition, with Malaysia expected to put up a strong challenge.
