From Times wire services

Oral Roberts University baseball Coach Gary Vaught resigned today, three weeks after the school dropped out of the NCAA with six games left in the season.

Vaught, 37, announced his resignation at a hastily called news conference. He was ending his third year as coach at the university when evangelist Oral Roberts announced May 2 that the school was immediately withdrawing from the NCAA. The Titans had not completed their final six games of the season when the announcement was made, but the team decided two days later to forfeit the games. Vaught openly expressed his frustration over the decision to leave the NCAA because it cost his 36-18 Titans any chance of post-season tournament play.

Oral Roberts said the university hoped to save between $500,000 and $1 million by playing in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics.
