Marvin Miller, retired executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Assn., says baseball Commissioner Bart Giamatti has no right to judge Pete Rose.

“Giamatti, I don’t have to tell you, he comes from about the only institution in the country as right wing and arrogant as the baseball owners--namely academia, where notions of due process or just cause are completely foreign,” Miller said.

Miller said if he were representing Rose at next month’s baseball hearing regarding reports the Cincinnati manager may have gambled on baseball games, he would attack the commissioner and the process.
