NCAA Softball : Bruins Beat Broncos, 9-0; Fresno Wins

Yvonne Guiterrez’s two-out double in the bottom of the first inning started UCLA toward a 9-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona in the NCAA Division I softball championships Friday.

Guiterrez had two of UCLA’s 11 hits as the No.1-ranked Bruins improved to 45-4 and advanced to today’s quarterfinal round. They will play Oklahoma State, a 4-0 winner over Arizona late Friday night.

In an earlier game, Shelly Stokes had two hits to lead Fresno State to a 3-0 victory over Toledo.

Only three of UCLA’s nine runs were earned as the Broncos committed seven errors. UCLA center fielder Lorraine Maynez went four for four and scored four runs while second baseman Missy Phillips was two for four with two RBIs.
