Raves for ‘Road House’

Many of the critics--pro and con--assumed that “Road House’s” Jasper, Mo., setting was fictional. In fact, it’s a real town (pop. 1,012), in the southwest corner of the state.

But, wrote Missouri critic Robert Trussell: “Little effort was made to hide the (California) mountains in the background. It could just as easily have been set in New Jersey, Hong Kong or outer space.” Trussell, of the Kansas City Star, went on to pan the pic.

As for Jasper locals, Mayor Fred Youngblood, who runs Fred’s Custom Cycles on Main Street, gives it a thumbs-up: “I enjoyed it. But then, I like ‘Rambo’ movies and Chuck Norris pictures. It had fights and sex and Harley-Davidsons and rock ‘n’ d roll.
