Marine Dies in Crash While Drag-Racing
A 24-year-old Marine sergeant from Camp Pendleton died early Saturday when his motorcycle spun out of control while he was drag-racing with another motorcyclist down an Oceanside street.
The man, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives, suffered massive head injuries and died before paramedics could rush him to Tri-City Hospital, authorities said.
The man was racing along North Pacific Street shortly after midnight when he lost control in the 500 block, struck a curb and was thrown to the ground, police said.
Authorities are seeking the rider of the second motorcycle, which did not stop.
