Remelmeyer Has Heart Surgery After Suffering Chest Pains
Former Torrance City Atty. Stanley E. Remelmeyer was in stable condition Saturday at Torrance Memorial Hospital Medical Center after undergoing open heart surgery Friday.
Remelmeyer, 70, was hospitalized after suffering chest pains while attending a political fund-raiser in San Pedro.
Torrance Mayor Katy Geissert said she had been informed by Remelmeyer’s wife that he underwent a bypass operation.
Remelmeyer was transported to Torrance Memorial’s intensive care unit by ambulance Friday after spending Thursday night in the critical care unit of San Pedro Peninsula Hospital.
Remelmeyer was driven to the San Pedro hospital by Torrance City Councilman Dan Walker after he complained of chest pains while attending a fund-raising dinner in San Pedro for Assemblyman Gerald N. Felando (R-San Pedro).
Remelmeyer retired last November after 32 years as Torrance city attorney. He was appointed earlier this month to serve for two to three months as interim city attorney in Hermosa Beach while the city seeks a permanent city attorney.
