Comedian Bob Hope turns 86 today, but his birthday was celebrated Thursday by about 3,000 people near Charleston, S.C., who serenaded him with a chorus of “Happy Birthday” on the flight deck of the former aircraft carrier Yorktown, now a museum. Hope visited the Charleston suburb to play a round of golf at the second annual William Westmoreland Open at Patriots Point Links, which was expected to raise upwards of $20,000 for the Vietnam Veterans Institute. “Age doesn’t mean a damn thing,” Hope told the crowd. “When I wake up in the morning, I don’t feel my age--in fact, I don’t feel anything till noon. . . . Then it’s time for my nap.”
