Calling Soviet Leader a Cowboy
I, and surely many other thousands of Americans, wish to disassociate myself completely from the recent remark of a presidential spokesman (Marlin Fitzwater) who called Gorbachev a “drugstore cowboy.”
If our men in Washington are upset (and well they may be) over Gorbachev’s psychological and actual lead in negotiating toward a peaceful world, then let our leaders come forth with some meaningful unilateral moves, rather than childishly venting their frustration by means of undiplomatic, not to say rude and crude, remarks.
