Tim Doyle Wins National Racquetball Title
Tim Doyle and his sister Cindy both played in the finals of the open division of the American Amateur Racquet Assn. national singles championships here Monday, with Tim winning and Cindy losing.
It was the first time in the 21-year history of the tournament that siblings had advanced to the open finals. There were more than 1,200 competitors at this year’s six-day tournament.
Tim Doyle, 20, of Columbus, Ohio, upset defending champion and top-seeded Andy Roberts, 23, of Memphis, Tenn., 15-10, 8-15, 11-5, in the men’s final. Doyle, seeded 14th, took advantage of Roberts’ inconsistent serve.
Cindy Doyle, 19, of Williamsville, N.Y, lost to Michele Gilman, 18, of Ontario, Ore., 15-5, 5-15, 11-3, in the women’s final.
