IN BRIEF : Car Burglary Sidelines Ala. Fullback
Robert Stewart, a fullback on Alabama’s football team last fall, pleaded guilty today to an automobile burglary charge and apparently will not play for the Crimson Tide this fall.
Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge John M. Karrh gave him a year’s suspended sentence, placed him on probation for two years and ordered him to perform 60 hours of community service and to pay undetermined restitution to the car’s owner. “It is our understanding he will not be allowed to play this fall,” said Stewart’s attorney, Wayne Williams.
Stewart played linebacker for the Crimson Tide in 1987 and moved to fullback in the spring of 1988. He started four games last season and ran for 135 yards and one touchdown. He caught eight passes for 52 yards and another score.
