Paramount : Architect Hired as District Seeks Funds to Build Elementary School

Share

A Riverside architectural firm has been hired by the Paramount Unified School District to help the district qualify for state funds to build a new elementary school to relieve overcrowded conditions.

The school board agreed to pay an estimated $10,000 for Ruhnau McGavin Ruhnau Associates to provide preliminary drawings and other information to the state.

It could take two or three years before the district receives final approval, Supt. Richard Caldwell said. The district has more than 12,000 students and could easily use another elementary school now, Caldwell said.

As part of the district’s plan to relieve overcrowding, an $8.5-million project is currently under way at the 2,800-student Paramount High School. A two-story building, which will include administrative offices and classrooms, and seven additional classrooms will be constructed on the grounds of the high school.
