Jay Don Blake, continuing a hot streak that began last week, matched the course record with a seven-under-par 64 Friday and took a one-shot lead over Don Pooley in the second round of the Kemper Open golf tournament at Potomac, Md.

Blake finished his second straight bogey-free round with three birdies on the final four holes of the 6,917-yard TPC at Avenel course. His 36-hole total of 132 put him 10 strokes under par at the halfway point of the $900,000 event.

Pooley, who also shot a 64, twice had chances to set a course record. He missed a seven-foot birdie putt by a few inches on the 18th hole, after coming up just short on a 12-foot birdie try at No. 17.

Tom Byrum was three strokes back after shooting a 69, and first-round leader D.A. Weibring, who shot a 72 after also tying the course record Thursday, was among three players at 136.

Blake, who has not won a tournament in his three years on the PGA Tour, came closest to victory last week when he held a one-stroke lead after three rounds at Atlanta. But he had four bogeys and a double-bogey in the final round to finish tied for third place.

Betsy King and Sherri Turner shot three-under-par 69s to share the second-round lead in the Rochester International at Pittsford, N.Y., at 139.

Turner birdied three of the last five holes, while King sank eight-foot par putts on her final two holes.

First-round leader Patty Sheehan shot a 73 and dropped back into a tie for second place at 141 with Ayako Okamoto, who had a 72.

Nancy Lopez shot a 69 and was at 142.

Gary Player birdied the first three holes en route to a five-under-par-67 and a one-stroke lead in the first round of the Doug Sanders senior tournament at Houston.
