Robert Taft, a member of one of Ohio’s most politically powerful families and currently a county commissioner, announced Monday that he will run for governor next year.

Taft’s father and grandfather were U.S. senators and his great-grandfather, William Howard Taft, was President of the United States.

Democratic Gov. Richard F. Celeste cannot seek reelection, and no Democrats have yet entered the race. Republicans besides Taft who plan to run include Cleveland Mayor George V. Voinovich, Rep. Mike DeWine and state Sen. Paul Pfeifer.
