Hundreds Bid for 8 NBA Tickets Seized During Raid
Hundreds of callers jammed state Department of Treasury telephone lines today to bid for NBA Finals tickets that were seized in a drug raid.
Bob Kolt, a spokesman for the department, said that because it was blind bidding, he couldn’t reveal the amounts being offered for the $25 tickets, but he described them as good bids.
The tickets were among the assets seized last month in a raid in Bloomfield Hills. Under state law, the department must auction such items to the highest bidder.
The tickets went on the block today, just in time for Game 2 between the Detroit Pistons and the Lakers tonight at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The department had four tickets to tonight’s game and four for Game 6, which will be played June 18 if needed, Treasurer Robert Bowman said. They were to be sold in pairs to the highest bidder.
Kolt, a spokesman for the department, said the money raised from the auction will go toward $6.9 million in taxes and fines assessed in the drug raid.
