DFG Expected to Lift Bag, Size Limits on Doomed Bass at Lake Elsinore

Special to The Times

Impending doom for an abundance of largemouth bass in Lake Elsinore in Riverside County is expected to move the State Fish and Game Commission to lift bag and size limits today.

The Department of Fish and Game recommended the action, fearing the fish would die soon, anyway, because of drought conditions--low water, low oxygen levels and high water temperatures.

The action is expected just in time for anglers to take advantage of this year’s first “free” fishing day Saturday, when no licenses are required throughout the state. However, at Elsinore there is a $1.50 day-use fee and a $6 charge for launching a boat.

Other regulations will remain the same at Elsinore. Only 10 catfish may be taken a day, but sunfish and carp may be fished without regard to bag and size limits.
