Panning a ‘Piece’

So film maker Gary Glaser has made a documentary about graffiti in Los Angeles (“Graffiti Chronicler’s Video Delves Into Urban Scrawl” by Claudia Puig, June 6).

The film apparently presents these folks who practice “piecing” (short, we are told, for “masterpiecing,” lest there be any possible misinterpretation) as articulate and sensitive artistic souls who merely want to make a statement.

One wonders what Glaser might do for an encore after such an illuminating “piece.” Perhaps he should consider a documentary on people who throw trash out of cars or people who stick chewing gum under counter tops at restaurants!
