Threat to Birds Seen

Share

It is very upsetting that a newspaper with the stature of the Los Angeles Times would print an obvious press release without qualifying it as such. I am referring to your May 24 article stating that an environmental impact report shows that there would be no danger to condors from the proposed wind farm in the Gorman area.

You failed to mention these facts:

1. This is a draft environmental impact report, not a final document.

2. This report was prepared by a firm which is employed and paid by Zond Corp., the developer of the proposed wind farm.

3. The information contained in this document has not been reviewed or verified by any government agency.

This report regarding the condor as well as other raptors and migratory birds will be disputed by many environmental organizations, such as the Audubon Society and the Sierra Club, as it is just not correct.

The proposed area is a documented flyway for many species of birds. Longtime area residents verified many condor sightings in this area prior to the birds’ capture. Current residents daily see eagles, hawks, geese and many other species using this flyway.
