A Lakewood man who had to be rescued and two other Southern Californians were arraigned before a Yosemite National Park magistrate on charges of illegal parachuting. Park officials said John Hoover, 30, dropped about 1,000 feet from Glacier Point and landed on a ledge after his chute failed to open. A rescue team clambered down from the top of the 2,700-foot face the next day to hoist him to safety. Darrel Benge, 31, of California City and Bert Roberts, 23, of Burbank, made successful jumps from the point, rangers said. All three face possible $5,000 fines.
