A man who attacked Wade Boggs of the Boston Red Sox last winter was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Gainesville, Fla. George Young Jr., 25, pleaded no contest to two charges of aggravated assault and one count of burglary in the attack of Boggs and another man Dec. 28.

State guidelines call for a sentence of three years, but acting Circuit Judge J. Edward Philman said Young deserved a longer sentence because he had recently been released from prison.

“The fact that he had been released so recently on a violent crime and then went out and committed another even more violent crime, I determined him to be a danger to society,” Philman said.
