La Puente : Redevelopment Agency Vote

Share

The City Council will vote Friday on a proposal to consider forming a redevelopment agency to boost the city’s economy.

The five-member council is scheduled to decide whether to hire South Pasadena consultant Dudley J. Lang & Associates to study ways a redevelopment agency might attract more businesses to the area. The item was on Tuesday night’s agenda, but the council lacked a quorum.

If approved, the feasibility study would determine the cost-effectiveness of a redevelopment agency, and explore ways to finance it.

A redevelopment agency could condemn dilapidated shopping centers and erect modern buildings, said Rick Hartmann, director of planning and community development. He said the council, which has strong ties to its older residents, probably would not allow an agency to condemn substandard housing and replace it with businesses.
