South Gate : Reserve Police Officers Get $15 Monthly Pay Hike
The City Council has approved a $15 monthly pay increase for the 18 reserve officers who serve with the South Gate Police Department.
Compensation for the officers will jump from $35 to $50 a month. The increase will help pay for the officers’ uniforms and other expenses.
The council also approved increasing to 25 the number of reserve officers, who provide approximately 7,500 hours of service each year to the 89-officer department, Police Chief Ronald P. George said.
The reserve officers’ last pay increase was in 1982. The increases help the department recruit qualified reservists who may choose to become regular policemen, George said.
Reserve officers provide security at parades and other special events. They also work with the police Crime Impact Team to combat auto thefts and gang activities.
