The city of Los Angeles moved to temporarily stop shipping water it has collected in the Mono Lake basin under an order issued by a judge in El Dorado County. The water was ordered held in the city’s Grant Lake reservoir, near Lee Vining, until Judge Terrence M. Finney decides later this summer whether the Mono Lake environment is so badly threatened that all exports of water from the area should be halted. Once he issues his decision, the water will either be released into Mono Lake or put back into the Los Angeles Aqueduct.
