Women Anglers Are Catching Their Fair Share These Days

Share

Women anglers for the past two decades have been catching up to the men. Take a look any day aboard a party boat or private fishing boat and you will see women casting and reeling in fish, either from casting a jig or from a bait cast.

Marilyn Robinson of Long Beach, a galley cook on sportfishing boats for four years, says she has observed women having more success than men “on many ips.”

What does she do on her day off? She fishes.

Vickie Rubinson of West Los Angeles said her boyfriends enjoy hearing her brag about the times she tries to outdo them, either surface fishing or diving at Catalina Island.

There are more and more lady angers and couples fishing together every year. Many fishing clubs have tournaments just for women, with men required to skipper the boat.

The International Game Fish Assn. adds new names to the growing list of women who break records for fish and line size.

The Annie B barge in Los Angeles Harbor will play host Saturday for the ninth annual Veterans of Foreign Wars fishing tournament. More than 200 veterans have been invited to participate.
