Furor Over GOP Memo on Foley

Who says President Bush has no sense of humor? When he delivered that line, “He looked me in the eye . . . ,” I nearly fell out of my chair (Part I, June 9).
Looking you in the eye is the liar’s stock in trade. Any halfway successful liar can look you in the eye, while holding a smoking gun in his hand, and say, “I don’t know what happened.” Looking people in the eye is duck soup to a former campaign manager like Atwater.
What surprised me was that nobody in the audience, experienced news people, laughed or even smiled.
