Hospital’s Decision to Turn Away Pregnant Women
Re UCI Medical Center and indigent pregnant women:
You state that turning pregnant women away at UCIMC may be illegal. So where do you put these women? On the ceiling with crazy glue? If there is no room, then that’s it. No more space. Period. Is that so difficult to comprehend? Even if Medi-Cal was hyped up to increase its payments to hospitals, that is not the point! There is no more space!
The problem is that there is an epidemic of indigent births in this county. Women who are unable to take care of themselves are bringing in more and more people into the world. We, the working public, are having to pay for this--not the state or county, but the taxpayer.
