Chinese Massacre

Share

As a person of Chinese descent, and as a patriotic American, I deeply abhorred the bloody massacre that the Chinese government ordered upon the protesters for democracy. And as with most people in this country--Chinese and non-Chinese--I believe the U.S. government should and could do more to help those in China who are fighting for what we hold so dearly, yet sometimes take for granted: freedom.

But I somehow get the sense that those who are harping upon this Administration’s intrepid support for the student protesters in Beijing, are also the ones saying the U.S. government shouldn’t be doing any more than giving food supplies to the Freedom Fighters in Nicaragua. Rather than our own continent, is it better to have democracy in a country thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean? Of course not!

Let’s cut this hypocrisy and get our priorities straight. People of all nations fighting for democracy deserve our strongest support.
