WORLD : Afghans Seize U.S. Photographer
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An American free-lance photographer traveling with Muslim guerrillas has been captured and is being held by the Afghan government, Afghan guerrilla sources said today.
They identified him as Tony O’Brien, 42, a photographer from Santa Fe, N.M., on assignment for Time-Life Inc. He had been covering the Afghan war and was based in the Pakistani frontier city of Peshawar.
Guerrilla sources said O’Brien was captured Wednesday in western Kabul, the capital. The sources said he was being held in the capital and was reported to be in good condition.
