Jail Trusty Escapes From Honor Camp

A jail trusty serving time for auto theft escaped Monday afternoon from the Descanso honor camp after he was granted an unsupervised visit with a female friend, authorities said.

Kenneth H. Learned, 25, was due to have been released on probation by January.

Sgt. Roger Jacobs of the Descanso jail said Learned was visiting with the woman about 3 p.m. when they suddenly left the site and were last seen driving away in a small, red foreign car.

The companion had signed a visitor request card that listed her name as Doris Wendt of Escondido, Jacobs said. But when deputies searched that home later in the day, they did not find Wendt or Learned.

Learned remained free Monday night.
