Burl Osborne, president and editor of the Dallas Morning News, has been named chairman of the board of the American Press Institute in Reston, Va.
Osborne, 52, has been a board member since 1985. As chairman, he succeeds William O. Taylor, chairman and publisher of the Boston Globe, who has held the post for six years.
Taylor and Charles C. Glover, editor-in-chief of Cox Newspapers, will leave the board July 1. Taylor has been a member since 1974 and Glover since 1978.
Replacing them on the board will be William R. Burleigh, Scripps Howard senior vice president for newspapers and publishing, and Joseph D. Cantrell, president and publisher of the Daily Press and the Times Herald, Newport News, Va.
The institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to continuing education and career development for newspaper men and women. It was founded in 1946 by Canadian and American newspapers.
