Textile Company Plans Expansions in South

West Point-Pepperell will put its textile plants in Alabama, Georgia and Texas on seven-day workweeks in an expansion that is expected to create 330 jobs.

The company also plans to buy $40 million worth of new equipment for its bed products group, said its parent company, Farley Inc. of Chicago.

The need for the expanded schedule and new equipment is to “meet the growing demand for quality bed sheeting,” a Farley spokesman said.

The seven-day schedule, already in effect at some Pepperell plants, will begin in September at the Iselin Mill in New Braunfels, Tex., and in July, 1990, at the Dunson Mill in LaGrange, Ga., and the Lanier Mill in Huguley, Ga.

The new equipment will be installed by July of next year, the company said, at plants in Lanett and Opelika, Ala., as well as at the Dunson and Lanier mills.
