A musical based on the life of dynamic Brazilian singer-actress Carmen Miranda might be heading for Broadway. Motown Productions President Suzanne de Passe said Wednesday that the company has lined up exclusive world rights to the life story of Miranda and plans are under way to develop a musical about the performer who was known for her towering fruit-salad hats. The proposed Broadway musical would star Charo, who says that Miranda “has been an inspiration and a role model for me throughout my career.” Miranda appeared on Broadway in addition to several movie musicals in the 1940s.
