3 New ZIP Codes for Arcadia Begin July 1

Beginning July 1, Arcadia will no longer be a one-ZIP code town.

With the volume of mail in the city increasing rapidly, the U. S. Postal Service has decided to add three ZIP codes, two of them for box patrons, a postal spokeswoman said.

Growth in the city prompted postal officials to add six delivery routes during the last two years, said Kathleen Cather, director of marketing for the Pasadena Postal Processing Center, which handles Arcadia’s mail.

Residents living south of the Foothill Freeway and west of Santa Anita Avenue will have the new ZIP code of 91007. Other Arcadia residences will keep the current ZIP code of 91006.

Post office box patrons who use the post office on Wheeler Avenue will be assigned 91066. Those whose boxes are at the post office on West Duarte Road will begin using 91077.

The additional ZIP codes will help the processing center in Pasadena to better sort mail before routing it to Arcadia, Cather said.

The Pasadena processing center, which handles mail for parts of the San Fernando Valley as well as San Gabriel Valley communities as far east as Duarte, is changing ZIP codes for all post office boxes in its service area. But Arcadia is the only city it serves that will have an additional ZIP code for street patrons, Cather said.

Residents who are required to change their ZIP codes have one year to notify correspondents of their new address, she said.
