Los Angeles County officials have set a public meeting Wednesday to explain their efforts to clean up contaminated soil and water at two plants operated by a defense contractor in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The meeting comes in response to allegations that toxic chemicals illegally dumped by Space Ordnance Systems in Mint Canyon and Sand Canyon led to four cancer deaths in a single family. The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in Santa Clarita City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd.
Attending the meeting will be members of a task force of citizens, health officials and company representatives organized after the contamination was discovered in 1984. Also attending will be members of a monitoring committee that has overseen cleanup efforts at the plants.
