Ake Wins Mini Stock Race at Ventura

Rock Ake Jr. of Moorpark extended his points lead in the Mini Stock division by surviving an accident-marred contest to post a figure 8 main-event victory before a crowd of 3,268 Friday night at Ventura Raceway.

Ake took the lead on Lap 6 after the first-place car driven by Gary Curtis of Camarillo broadsided Forrest Nickerson of Santa Paula at the intersection. On the next lap, Ake’s car sputtered as he was passed by the field, but Richard Crawford of Thousand Oaks rolled his car in Turn 1, setting up a second re-start and this time Ake had full power and took the checkered flag at the end of the 10-lap race.

Lynn Brader of Somis won the 15-lap Street Stock oval main event for his first victory of the season.
