SAN DIEGO ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS
The image of the Spirit of St. Louis gliding in a blue sky dotted with tall palm trees was selected as the winning design for a 110-by-50-foot mural for the downtown Ramada Hotel at 660 K St. San Diegan Mario Uribe’s design topped more than 40 entries in a juried contest open to artists in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties and border cities in California and Baja California, Mexico. For his trompe l’oeil design, Uribe will receive $25,000 to cover materials, labor and artist’s fee. Uribe plans to begin work on the side of the 21-story, 312-room hotel in July and hopes to finish in November.
