Huntington Park : Council Approves 30% Increase in Water Rates

Share

The Huntington Park City Council has approved a 30% increase in water rates to cover the higher cost of imported water and increased ground-water testing.

Officials said the average residential water bill for a two-month period, including service charges, will go from $35 to $43 when the increase takes effect Saturday, said Robert W. Bowcock, water superintendent. The minimum service charge for customers of the municipal water system remains at $10 per two-month billing period.

The municipal water company buys about 40% of its water from the Metropolitan Water District to meet the demands of a growing population, Bowcock said. The imported water costs six times the amount it costs the city to pump ground water. But the city already pumps the maximum amount it is allowed to use from the area’s ground-water basin.
