Couple Jailed for Swindles 2nd Time
A couple was sentenced for the second time Wednesday to Los Angeles County Jail for swindling customers of their wood products business by taking their money for quality goods but delivering inferior ones or none at all.
Ronald Huber, 39, and his wife, Julie Huber, 37, of Newbury Park, were each sentenced to six-month jail terms after admitting that their activities in operating a Ventura County custom door business violated the terms of their probation from a 1986 conviction.
Van Nuys Municipal Court Judge Isabel Cohen also ordered the couple to pay up to $30,000 in restitution to their victims. Ronald Huber is scheduled to begin serving his jail term Sept. 7, and Julie Huber is to start serving hers March 7.
In 1986 Cohen sentenced Julie Huber to 165 days in County Jail and her husband to 150 days behind bars after they pleaded no contest to a similar swindle. The couple was also placed on three years’ unsupervised probation.
