* The Board of Directors of Permanent Charities Committee of the Entertainment Industry has awarded $300,000 in gifts and special grants to 35 Los Angeles-area charitable agencies with amounts ranging from $2,500 to $40,000. PCC is the official charitable organization of the entertainment industries and has raised more than $75 million for health and human services agencies in the Greater Los Angeles area since its founding in 1940.

* The Thalians presented checks to the Thalians Mental Health Clinic of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the amounts of $243,242 completing a $2-million pledge, and $211,500, the first payment on a new $2-million pledge. The clinic provides mental health services for infants and children and other services. Ruta Lee is Thalians chairman; Debbie Reynolds is president.

* The Third Annual Toshiba Microcomputer Charity Golf & Tennis Classic held on June 5 at the Industry Hills Championship Golf and Tennis Club in the City of Industry raised $35,000 for the Starlight Foundation. The foundation grants wishes to seriously and terminally ill children. Phil Vertin, Chip Lacy and Bill Fairfield were co-chairmen.

* The 41st annual Brotherhood Ball sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews on June 8 at the Century Plaza honoring James P. Miscoll, James Jacobson, Bruce and Harriet Hochman netted $165,000. The proceeds will be used for NCCJ’s ongoing programs to reduce prejudice and interracial/interreligious tensions. Phillip Williams, Howard Edwards and Burt Levinson were co-chairmen.

* The American Child Foundation, a nonprofit organization that introduces children to photography and the arts, raised $1,000 at a silent auction at 20th Century Fox on June 9 with work by Jana Taylor and other artists. The funds will be used to establish the American Child Institute of Fine Arts in Southern California.

* The National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine benefit at the Santa Monica Airport on June 10 netted $180,000 for the center. The event was hosted by the Real Estate/Construction Division of the Center.

* The Los Angeles Area Council Boy Scouts of America raised $57,000 at their Summer Solstice Sizzle Bachelor Auction at the Riviera Country Club on June 21. The highest bid for a bachelor was for $4,300, which includes a five-day vacation to London.

* The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Greater Los Angeles/Orange Counties Chapters held its 2nd Annual Casino Fling on June 24 at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel. The 1920s-themed event included a silent auction and netted $30,000 for research, care and treatment. Cochairs: Joanne Reeves and Sue Emerson.

* The Home Furnishings Industry Guild’s 20th Anniversary Dinner on June 24 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel netted $250,000 for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Robert E. Bear was chairman. Scott A. Hessler and Donna J. Millsap were co-chairs.
