Four Air Force paramedics parachuted into the Pacific 550 miles northwest of San Francisco today to give aid to a Korean merchant seaman injured in a fall into a hold on his ship.
The rescue team climbed aboard the Lucky Transporter about 9:30 a.m., after dropping into the ocean near the ship, which was on a southeast course to Long Beach, said Petty Officer Dennis Hall, a spokesman for the Coast Guard rescue center in Long Beach. Hall said the 30-year-old sailor suffered a broken arm and other injuries. He was to be flown by helicopter to a San Francisco hospital when the ship came within range.
