An Armenian tailor from Pasadena won a $2.5-million jackpot on a Fourth of July weekend trip to the Barbary Coast hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Vartivar Chenorhavorian, whose name in English means “congratulations”, dropped in three coins, pulled the handle once and hit a $2,578,028 jackpot by lining up three Wild Sevens on the bottom line of a Megabucks machine.
Megabucks is a statewide slot machine system linking more than 100 casinos throughout Nevada to a giant progressive jackpot.
The winner and his wife, vacationing at the Barbary Coast for the holidays, were waiting in line to eat dinner when Chenorhavorian dropped in a few coins to pass the time.
Chenorhavorian did not realize he had won the big jackpot until a casino slot machine attendant pointed out he was a multimillion-dollar winner.
His wife said she was planning to quit her job. Chenorhavorian said: “Like every man, I have dreams--and now some of my dreams can come true.”
